CORLISS KING IS AMONG THE LATEST GRADUATES OF THE ILLINOIS WOMEN’S INSTITUTE FOR LEADERSHIP (IWIL) TRAINING ACADEMY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago, IL - November 6, 2024 - On October 17, 2024 Illinois AFL-CIO Vice President and Entrepreneurs Academy Board Chairwoman, Corliss King graduated from the Illinois Women’s Institute for Leadership (IWIL) Training Academy. The IWIL mission is to prepare and train Democratic, pro-choice women to run for elected office, seek public appointments, and successfully impact all levels of Illinois government. Upon graduation Corliss King joins the ranks of notable graduates that have utilized this intensive training to catapult to a variety of arenas.

“As a graduate, Corliss will be poised to take her experience as a leader in the Organized Labor Movement and as a business owner and apply what was honed through her IWIL training to best further the mission of both the Democratic Party and IWIL. We are thrilled about that,” said Terrie Pickerill, President of IWIL and Founding Partner, Snyder Pickerill Media Group

“We at Entrepreneurs Academy extend our heartfelt congratulations to Corliss King, Board Chairwoman of EA, on her graduation from the prestigious I Will Academy Illinois Women's Institute for Democratic Leadership. This invitation-only Leadership Academy program selects only 12 women across the state of Illinois, and Corliss’s inclusion highlights her commitment to empowerment, innovation, and leadership. Her achievements promise a transformative impact on both the community and Entrepreneurs Academy. Join us in celebrating Corliss's remarkable accomplishment and the bright future that she is creating,” says the CEO & Founder of Entrepreneurs Academy, Philip Fairweather.

Many incredible women are products of this elite training. Among the most notable of IWIL graduates include Congresswomen Cheri Bustos and Marie Newman and Illinois Lieutenant Governor Stratton. Since its founding in 2002, more than 450 elections have been won by alumni at all levels of government.

“I walked into the first day of IWIL wondering what I would get from this experience. I leave this program richer in knowledge, clearer in purpose, buoyed by support and engulfed in this incredible Sisterhood” said Corliss King. “Being a part of this amazing group of women has forever changed me and I’m excited to show Illinois and the world what it means to be an IWIL Sister.”

Each year, IWIL painstakingly selects the latest class of twelve Illinois women into an intensive and immersive training program. The IWIL delegates from across the state traverse Illinois, including Chicago, Springfield, Carbondale, and DuQuoin, and a trip to Washington, D.C. Each session is taught by top industry experts and elected officials curated to develop a winning Democratic campaign in Illinois and beyond. Founded in 2002 by leading Democratic women in Illinois including Loretta Durbin, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, and former State Senator Iris Martinez, IWIL remains the premier training program for Democratic women.

As the mother of two young women, Corliss King knows the importance of giving our youth positive role models. Corliss is a staunch advocate for families, workers and civil rights. Propelled by the untimely death of her husband Terrance Hale, Corliss has made substantive change in the Labor Movement and championed changes in laws to protect workers with a focus on supporting those that work in the aviation sector. Corliss is currently a Vice President on the Executive Board of the Illinois AFL-CIO. She is a member of the Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) Finance Committee and serves as the Illinois and Indiana COPE State Conference Chair of the TWU and Co-Chair of the Aviation Committee of the CFL. She is also the past Vice President of the Transport Workers Union Local 556 representing the Flight Attendants of Southwest Airlines. She is excited to utilize her experience and breadth of knowledge to improve the lives of the diverse families in Illinois and to make her daughters proud.
